Patrick Meek is an American Long Track Speedskater. As an Olympic hopeful, he lives in Park City, UT and trains in Salt Lake City at the Utah Olympic Oval. Although he spent part of his childhood in St. Louis, MO, he was born in Chicago, IL and still considers that home.

Patrick started his lifelong love of the sport by learning to skating at the age of two, pushing a bucket around the ice. For him, Speedskating is a family thing, following in the footsteps of his grandfather and his father.

Being an amateur athlete is a full time job. Patrick spends six to eight hours a day, six days a week, training. His mornings are spent skating left, over-and-over again, on the ice. In the afternoon, you’ll find him in the gym lifting—his quads measure an astounding 28″ around, larger than the circumference of most people’s skull—or on a bike for hours at a time working on endurance.

Patrick is an Allround, or distance, Long Track Speedskater and specializes in the 10K race, which is 25 laps around a 400m meter oval.

He has been a member of the U.S. National team since 2006 and competes internationally on the World Cup circuit and hopes soon, to add Olympian, to his distinguished list of accomplishments. Patrick has a bachelor’s degree in political science from the University of Utah.

Patrick’s family—mom, dad and two sisters—now reside in Naples, FL and follow his racing from the beach.
